MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CA Last official race of the year took us back to Mammoth mountain in California. The Pro GRT series had 5 stops, and this was the last one to seal the deal. Coming in, Bryn and I both were leading the series, so it was even better to walk away with both the pro men's and pro women's National championship series.
The most exciting part, from being both a racer, and athlete representative for the series, is that there are some talented younger kids coming down the pipeline that will no doubt work on their race craft in this competitive series, and be prepared sooner for the World Cup. It's cool to lead by example and be there to see their development, as well as winning races and being a part of a growing US series.
Mammoth is a weird place, as far as the soil and altitude, not super easy as everything shifts under you with the pumice. We were here for national champs a couple months earlier and they ran the same courses though, so had it pretty wired. There is a lot of history in this zone with racing. They even ran a legends Kamikaze race, with a few familular faces from the past- Kovarik, Palmer, sharples, Ronning, etc.
I was signed up for all 3 events again, but the slalom was such a shit show at night , in the cold, under lights, and didn't get home till 9 or 10pm. Took like 4 hrs standing around in the cold. Decided to just go home early with a flawless weekend and skip enduro.
The last couple weeks, from world champs, to being sick, then Vegas for interbike, straight into Mammoth was a bit rough.
Good news is that the season is over and we get a couple months to regroup before getting back into it. c ya..
